We
had a problem to find and describe the differences between the Ukrainian and
British cultures.
We
were to find out the differences in communication in our country and in Great
Britain. Another question was to find out what holiday we celebrate more: New
Year or Christmas. And what’s happening in Great Britain: do they prefer to
celebrate Christmas?

In
order to provide this information we have built up a questionnaire and studied
information concerning the first question of our study.
As we could understant, there is a
big cultural gap between our two cultures of communication. We found out that
there is the word “ти” in English language, and it is not
common for us “you”, it is the word “thee”. But they don’t use it in their
speech. English people only use it when they talk to God. So common for us
“you” is translated as “ви” and they use
“ви” to talk to
each other. English people always use such words as ‘please’, ‘sorry’, ‘excuse
me’, etc. But it doesn’t mean that they are really sorry about something, or
they show you respect when they say “you”. They never show their feelings on
public. In opposite, Ukrainian people are far more open to the society, but
less polite…
Concerning our second study we found
a questinnaire in the net and asked our fellow students to complete it. After
that we compared the results and made a diagram
